Nurturing The Next Generation of Vets


At Boongarry Training Services in Cairns, we believe in nurturing the next generation of veterinary and animal health care professionals. Unlike any other, our Vets In Progress program offers a unique opportunity for aspiring vets, vet nurses, zookeepers and animal scientists in Primary, Secondary and Senior age groups. This comprehensive educational experience involves hands-on learning opportunities and activities designed to introduce young animal enthusists to veterinary medicine and animal health, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the profession, responsible pet ownership and animal care.


Primary or ‘Tree Frog’ participants (aged 8-10 years) begin their journey by learning about basic pet and animal care, safe animal handling and the role of a veterinarian. Secondary, ‘Echidna’, particpants (aged 11-14 years), delve into more advanced topics such as animal anatomy, common ailments and basic medical and diagnostic procedures. For those in our Senior, ‘Osprey’, group, our program provides an immersive experince where they can explore more advanced veterinary and animal health concepts, and practical skills.

Exotic Animal Health: A Unique Focus


What sets our program apart is our unique perspective—our in-depth focus on unusual and exotic pets and their health. At Boongarry Training Services, we're renowned for our expertise in this field. Through interactive workshops and demonstrations, participants get to learn about the unique health needs and care requirements of many commonly kept species such as birds, reptiles, fish, guinea pigs, and rodents .


Our program also includes mentorship opportunities, demonstrations by partner organisations and animal handlers, and field trips to other veterinary clinics or animal welfare facilities, exposing participants to real life animal care scenarios. This helps them understand different aspects and responsibilities of the profession, providing valuable insight that textbooks alone cannot offer.
